My Crazy Crafty Weekend

I had fun this weekend.  I made a ton of friendship bracelets.  I made an adorable bangle out of a plastic bottle.  And I made a cuff out of the waistband of an old pair of jeans!  Talk about your upcycling!  I am in love with that word, and the entire concept.  Reusing things you already have laying around.  Seriously, the only things I have had to purchase have been accents like buttons, ribbon, and snaps.  It has been awesome!  Even the string for the friendship bracelets was something I had on hand (yes, I keep everything).  :)  Here are some of the goodies I created this weekend.  Enjoy!

I hope your weekend was equally craftastic!

Summer Camp Fun

At least that is where I feel like I am...I have been making friendship bracelets...all day!  And loving every minute of it.

Here are a few of my creations.

I am in love with this one, it is super long (40"), so I can wrap it around my wrist or neck with ease!  I have it listed on my Etsy if you want one too!

And these are traditional bracelets.

Happy Sunday!

Harry Potter Day

My oldest son goes to 4th R, which is a day care program with the City of Sacramento.  A program I also went to when I was in elementary school.  I have some awesome memories of my 4th R days, and I am thrilled that Lucas is getting the opportunity to make some of his own memories there.

Today is Harry Potter day at 4th R.  My oldest is only 6, and we haven't really introduced him to the World of Harry Potter, so he doesn't have any shirts, or other Potter parafanilia.  So what is a crafty mother to do?  Why make a shirt for her kid of course!

I scrounged through his drawers and found a gold colored t-shirt he never wears, then I scrounged through my closet and found my old maroon/burgandy senior class t-shirt that I NEVER wear (1st off it is too big, 2nd, it says "It's a Senior Thing" on the front and "You wouldn't understand" or something like that on the back, LAME).  Anyhoo, once I found those two shirts I knew I had some extra white and khaki ones laying in my craft pile, and with my magical powers I knew I had a Gryffindor t-shirt in the making (no, I am not full of myself, I just like to toot my horn once in a while).  Just because I had the material didn't mean I had a design...thank God for the internet.  I scoured the net looking for some inspiration, and let me tell you, there are entirely too many Harry Potter ideas out there.  FINALLY I found a lion outline I knew I could free hand and use as an applique, and so I set to work.

The gold shirt had a huge emblem on the front, so I covered that with the burgandy material then layered my lion on in white, and the letters spelling out "Seeker" in khaki with a white shahow.  Then I happened to turn the shirt over while stitching around the edges of my applique, and what did I find...another freakin emblem to cover!  So I came up with a quick, and I mean QUICK, Golden Snitch and attached that sucker right as my hubby came in to the living room to tell me it was time for bed.  Whew!  Got that bad boy done by the skin of my teeth!  And he couldn't be cuter!  Check it out...

And of course, what outfit would be complete without a matching friendship bracelet?  :)

Etsy Finds

I {heart} Etsy!  I really do!  Not only do I have a shop on there, but I also love to browse other folk's shops!  I am constantly amazed at the creations I find, and at the passion that must go in to each item.  Here are some of my favorite (believe me, it was hard to pick just a few) jewelry items.  Be sure to check out their shops soon!

Fab Bib Necklace

For a while there I was trying to create what I thought people might buy.  It sucked the creativity out of me!  I was stumped, I couldn't decide what to make and so I made nothing.  Well all that blocked creativity has begun to flow once again.  I stopped trying to make what I thought everyone else wanted, and started making what I wanted to make, and this is what I came up with, a fab bib necklace I am proud to feature in my Etsy shop!
It is filled with felt, denim, buttons, and embroidery, and I love it!  It is colorful, young hearted, and fun, I couldn't be happier.  Hopefully someone buys it, and honestly, if no one does, I might have to wear it myself!

Linky Parties

One of the many things I love about blogging is "meeting" new people.  The blog world is full of amazing people with amazing stories.  Another thing that is awesome is how bloggers support one another.  From sharing each others links, to showing off one anothers projects to complimenting one another on posts, ideas, creations, etc.  Each week I try to link up with at least two linky parties.  Depending on the day I have the time to do this is how I choose which sites to link with.  Last week I linked up with At Home with Kindra, and she chose to feature my entry this week!  I am super excited, and would love for you to check out her link party this week, and my featured project.  Thanks Kindra for highlighting my robot applique onesie!

Etsy Shop & Wayne Thiebaud Love

I have always said there is something for everyone.  Honestly, I could never be a trash collector, but there are folks, hard working folks, who do it, and do it well.  I could never be a police officer, I am horrible at confrontation, and even though it is rare that an officer has to use their gun, I wouldn't want to have to choose my life over someone elses.  One of my favorite artists is Wayne Thiebaud, and in the 5th grade we painted our own version of this painting

Needless to say, my painting wasn't as fabulous as his, and yet my mom still hangs it on the fridge every once in a while (she keeps EVERYTHING).  :)  So as you can guess, becoming a painter us another career I won't be pursuing.

All that being said, I love to craft.  I like glue guns, embroidery thread, felt and fabric.  I am beginning to love the sewing machine (except when I break a needle, that sucks).  So in an effort to futher fuel my craft enthusiasm I have opened an Etsy shop.  I have had a love affair with Etsy for a while now.  It is amazing the stuff you can find on there.  And the talent, don't even get me started!  MAN!  I have had a number of people show interest in some of my creations that I have worn, and I am hoping others will appreciate what I have to offer.  Only time will tell.  Here are a couple of the items I have for sale.

Woo frickity hoo

Half of the fun of having a blog is figuring out how to design it.  My blog has gone through a few theme changes.  And the newest one rocks, if I do say so myself.  Thanks to some fabulous other blogs (namely this one), I have learned how to create picture links for my social accounts, as well as my Etsy & Big Cartel accounts.  Check them out people...the cute little blue gem with the words after them, yep, those are links!  Well, all except the one that says "My People", that is more of a title.  Tonight's project is going to be to find or create a cute "Welcome" sign.

Also, I have been craft-lacklusterish lately.  I need to get my craft on (ala Rumpelstiltskin) and make some new goodies.  Hmm, maybe the new iPhone my hubby got me will inspire some creativity, or a whole bunch of laziness, either way, I'll take it!
